Latam Airlines Group, the South American company, together with some affiliates, are filing for US Chapter 11 creditor protection. This is in order to undertake a restricting process. This filing is voluntary and supported by key shareholders – Cueto Group and Qatar Airways, which will provide up to USD 900m for debtor-in-possession financing. With this Latam hopes to transform its business to maintain a leading position in Latin American air transport. The re-organization process will provide the company an opportunity to work with the group’s creditors and other stakeholders to reduce its debts.
